Graduate Studies
The Department of Atmospheric Sciences offers both M.S. and
Ph.D. programs, including a non-thesis M.S. option. Students with
physical sciences, engineering, mathematics and/or chemistry
backgrounds are all encouraged to apply. Virtually all
graduate students receive financial support, either as research
or teaching assistants. Assistantships include health insurance benefits, tuition payment and the payment of some student fees. Current stipends range from $21000 to $24000 per
year. The cost-of-living in the Bryan-College Station area is
generally quite low.
Research Opportunities
The department is currently one of the largest in the United
States and offers research opportunities spanning the full
spectrum of atmospheric sciences disciplines. Particular
research interests include weather and forecasting, dynamic
meteorology, physical and statistical climatology,
atmospheric chemistry and aerosol science, satellite meteorology
and remote sensing, and physical meteorology (among others).
Students participate in theoretical work, numerical modeling, experimental chemistry in the laboratory and in
the field, radar and aircraft field programs, and satellite
studies. More information about current projects can be found
on the Current Research page. Students are encouraged
to contact individual faculty members with inquiries about
current research opportunities.
