Monthly Review

September 2009 brought much needed rain to Bryan/College Station and for that matter most of the Brazos Valley. Much of the rain fell from the 12th-13th when an upper level low brought organized precipitation to the area for the first time in quite a while. The upper level low was quite persistent, finally ending a streak of six consecutive days of measurable precipitation on the 15th. A strong cold front marched through the area right around the time of the autumnal equinox. Considering the sweltering summer in the Brazos Valley, it was only fitting that the high on the 21st was 94°F, the last full day of summer. The first full day of autumn, the 23rd, saw a high of only 70°F. Overall, maximum temperatures were much cooler than normal with minimum temperatures a bit above normal. A lower spread than normal spread between high and low temperatures indicated a cloudier and wetter than normal pattern. Rainfall was almost twice the normal September monthly total and 11 days in the month had measurable precipitation.
