Monthly Review

Remarkably, College Station remained relatively close to normal temperature throughout March. With an extensive range of high temperatures, from 43 degrees to 86 degrees, March has been a month of transition for the area. The first days of the month were cooled from the remnants of a cold front from late February. Temperatures then remained very high, peaking on the 10th when average temperatures were almost 18 degrees above normal. A strong cold front then dropped high temperatures to the low 40s to low 50s for several days. Temperatures remained slightly above average following this period and increased until a few more cold fronts (and rainy days) kept temperatures below average. For the first time since August of 2008, College Station has recorded above normal monthly precipitation. In fact, College Station has received over 2 inches more than usual for March. Although this cannot break the drought in College Station, this rainfall has given needed moisture to local farmers. Though College Station still remains more than two inches below average for the year, the area has gained (and greened) lost ground.
