Volume 16 Number 11                                                                                        NOVEMBER 2003

The month of November in Texas in general was quite a roller coaster ride pertaining to temperature.  While record highs occurred during the middle of the month, the end of the month brought record low temperatures much of the state as well.  A severe weather outbreak in the middle of the month caused by a warm front and abundant gulf moisture produced nearly 30 tornado reports in the Houston/Galveston area. Intense precipitation fell across the South Central, Upper Coast, and Eastern regions of Texas.  Impressive 24-hour totals are as listed:  Bush Intercontinental Airport-5.28”, Victoria Regional Airport-3.29”, Dallas/Fort Worth, Austin, San Marcos, and College Station had one inch or more, and the majority of the Houston Metro experienced at least 4 inches of rain.

On the 18th of November a cold front boundary stabilized and dried out conditions across the state of Texas.  Overall, the state as a whole was warmer than normal, with the exception of Dallas/Fort Worth at -1.3 degrees Fahrenheit below normal.  Average temperatures for the month ranged from 1.5 to 4.1 degrees Fahrenheit above normal in Austin, and Houston respectively.  Fourteen stations experienced below normal precipitation, as opposed to Abilene, College Station, El Paso, Houston, Victoria, and Wichita Falls, which experienced precipitation greater than 100% of the monthly normal.
