Volume 16 Number 6.3
June 23, 2003
Ample rainfall was received
the week of June 16th. In Texarkana anywhere from five to seven
inches fell at a rate of two to three inches of rain per hour. This caused inconveniences for the beginning
of the work week with flooding and standing water everywhere around the heart
of the city. Otherwise, the remainder of the state with this exception was
quite warm and dry. High temperatures
ranged from the lower to middle 90’s, and lows were in the upper 60’s and lower
70’s. A few places in Texas did see a stray shower
probably caused by the stationary front that was draped across the state on
Monday. There were a few severe weather
events in the High Plains and Low Rolling Plains regions. On the 19th there were four reports
of wind gusts up to 77 miles per hour reported. Also, on the 20th, a
handful of large hail and wind damage observations were reported as well. The numerous large hail reports on the 22nd
were a result of showers and thunderstorms that fired up along the dryline in West Texas.
Forecast for the Week
For the week of June 23: The
forecast is calling for high temperatures in the 90’s across the state, and
lows in the 60’s and 70’s (upper 70’s can be expected around the coastal
areas). There is a slight chance of
showers and thunderstorms for most regions of Texas for the entire week. Many areas are issuing heat advisories this week,
as heat indices will be approaching values near 110 degrees in some regions.
