Volume 20 Number 5.1                                                                                                   May 18, 2007

The month started off wet when a strong low-pressure system brought abundant rainfall to much of the state.  However, rainfall has been hit or miss since then.  To the west of the I-35 corridor precipitation totals are mainly above normal as a result of several low-pressure systems that have moved over West Texas.  To the east of the I-35 corridor, precipitation is lacking.  With the exception of the sea breeze showers in Houston, most of the coastal stations are reporting precipitation totals below normal.

With respect to severe weather, May has been busy.  On May 2nd alone there were 9 tornado reports, 44 hail reports, and 63 severe wind reports.  For the entire month so far there have been 25 tornado reports, 143 hail reports, and 89 severe wind reports.

Monthly Outlook for June 2007

From the Climate Prediction Center:

The entire state is given an equal chance at above average, normal ,or below average temperatures and precipitation totals for the month of June.  This basically means, that there is nothing in the extended forecasts that suggests conditions will vary far from normal.  All that said, expect a normal June.
