Monthly Review
College Station was fortunate this month to experience fall-like temperatures, in contrast
to the year 2000, with record high temperatures in the triple digits.  The average maximum
temperature for September topped off at 85.4 degrees Fahrenheit, which was 5.5 degrees below
normal for this time of the year.
September proved to be quite a wet month for College Station with a monthly precipitation total
of 6.27 inches.  This rainfall total was 2.36 inches above normal.  At Easterwood Airport
precipitation for the year to date stands at 31.50 inches, which is 2.46 inches above normal.
As a result of a cold front moving through the area on the 6th, a record low minimum of 61
was reported on the 7th, which beat the record low temperature of 62 degrees from 1953.
The bulk of the precipitation received during the month of September was contributed to
frontal systems stalling or becoming stationary.  On the 11th, 2.10 inches of rain fell in a matter
of a few hours in College Station, causing some very minor street flooding that quickly subsided.
No severe weather was reported in the College Station area this month.  There was however a
wind gust of 43 miles per hour reported on the 11th which was associated with the precipitation
that fell that evening.
The month of September came to a close on a cool note.  High temperatures were in the upper
70's and lows in the 50's.  Fall is definitely here.
Fall-like conditions will be felt in October, with normal monthly temperatures and precipitation.
