Monthly Review
While October 2006 was an average month in terms of temperatures, it was far from average in terms of precipitation.
Record daily maximum rainfall was reported on two days of the month.  A daily record of 2.32" was reported on
the 10th.  This was the first measurable rainfall since September 23rd.  Another daily record was set on the 18th, when
2.55" was reported.  However, the month's largest daily rainfall total of 5.28" on the 16th was NOT a daily record.  In
1994, 13.39" was reported on the same day.  Even though it was not a record, the rainfall total of 5.28" on the 16th
was greater than the normal monthly total of 4.22".  This led to street flooding in and around the Bryan/College
Station area.  Before the soil even had a chance to dry out another 3.03" fell on the 18th-19th, which also lead to
some flooding problems.  The month's precipitation was rounded out by a total of 1.36" on the 25th-26th.  Overall, the
station received 12.88" during the month, which is 305% of normal, or three times the normal rainfall total.  As for
temperature, the monthly mean was 70.5°F, which is exactly the normal monthly mean.  The mean maximum was
81.2°F, 0.8°F below normal, and the mean minimum was 59.9°F , 0.9°F above normal.
