Monthly Review
October was another wet month for the Brazos Valley with 6.82 inches for the monthly total.
This total was 2.60 inches above normal, which also pushed the year-to-date total to nearly 5
inches above normal.  The copious rainfall can be contributed to the numerous stalled stationary
fronts which parked themselves in the South Central region of Texas.  This allowed for numerous
disturbances to train along the defined path of the boundary.  The month of October began with a
stationary front draped across the mid portion of the state, causing little precipitation in the Brazos
Valley.  It was however a stationary front on October 5th that caused instability in the atmosphere
which triggered numerous showers and thunderstorms in the eastern portion of Texas.  College
Station reported 2.36, and 0.81 on the 5th and 6th, respectively.  This frontal system did not
cool temperatures, but provided needed rainfall to the area.
The largest 24-hour rainfall of 3.01inches fell on the 9th due to an upper level disturbance.
A front moved across the state on the 14th, clearing the state, and slightly dropping temperatures.
Highs across the state were in the 70's.
The middle portion of the month was quite warm with 80's in the Brazos Valley.
A temperature of 90 degrees was reported on the 23rd of the month, which was the 2nd
highest maximum temperature for that date. The record high temperature was set in 1988 at 91
degrees Fahrenheit. These warmer than normal temperatures were followed by the first powerful
cold front of the fall season.  On the 25th the cold front made its way across South Central
Texas bringing with it a few rain showers and much cooler temperatures on the 26th.
High temperatures were more than 20 degrees cooler than the previous day.  The high temperature
of 60 degrees Fahrenheit tied the 4th lowest maximum temperature.  The month of October
concluded with warm and muggy conditions, and even a little rain on Halloween.
The Climate Prediction Center is predicting slightly above normal temperatures, and normal
precipitation for the Brazos Valley.
