Monthly Review
November 2006 brought warm temperatures and dry conditions to the Brazos Valley.  The monthly mean
temperature was 61.4°F, 1.4°F above normal.  The monthly rainfall total was 0.62", 2.56" below normal.  The
monthly rainfall total was only 20% of the normal rainfall for November.  That is the lowest percentage of normal
rainfall this year.  However, College Station is still 7.67" above average for the yearly total, due in part to the heavy
rains last month.  During the first 26 days of the month only 0.05" of rain was reported.  The bulk of the monthly
rainfall fell on the 30th.  0.39" was reported, which is 63% of the month's total precipitation.  On the 30th, a strong
cold front moved through the area dropped the low from 69°F on the 29th to 33°F on the 30th.  A record high
temperature was set on the 10th with a high of 87°F.  Also, a record highest minimum temperature was reported on
28th with a low of 66°F.  The inflow of gulf moisture due to the encroaching front lead to very warm temperatures
on the 28th and 29th.  The departure from the average temperature was +17.5°F and +18.5°F on the 28th and 29th
respectively.   An El Nino is forecast for this winter, so temperatures are expected to be slightly cooler than normal
with an increase in precipitation.  That is the opposite of what occurred this November.
