Monthly Review
May 2007 started off very wet as heavy rains from April carried into May.  1.16" fell on April 30th which combined
with 0.57" on the 1st for the highest 24-hour total for the entire month.  The four day precipitation total for April
30th through May 3rd was 2.63" inches.  Precipitation was the main story for this May.  In all there were 11
precipitation days (days with more than a trace of rainfall) but the monthly total was 1.03" short of normal.
Temperatures rose during the middle portion of the month as a ridge of high pressure built in.  Temperatures
were a few degrees above average from the 4th through 15th, with the exception of the 11th.  As this ridge moved
east it gained strength.  It remained over the eastern US as a series of low-pressure systems and shortwaves
brought rainfall from the 22nd through 28th.  2.36" fell during this period.  For the month, 4.02" was reported, which
is 1.03" below normal.  The average temperature for the month was 75.4°F, which is 0.1°F above normal.
