Monthly Review
The month of May was warm and dry for the Brazos Valley. Record highs and lows were recorded. A record
low was tied on the first of the month with a temperature of 47°F on the first.  A frontal passage on the 8th dumped
1.47" of rain on the area, 59% of the months total rainfall.  After this front, the area began to warm up, with the
highs at or above 85 all but three times from the 9th through the 31st. Between the 10th and the 25th only a trace of
rain was recorded and three record highs were observed.  The highest maximum temperature was tied on the 21st
and 25th with 96°F and 94°F, respectively, and a new high was set on the 22nd with 96°F, breaking the record set
in 1937 of 95°F. Seven days of precipation were recorded with only three over a tenth of an inch and with  87.5%
of the rain coming on two days, the 8th (1.47") and the 29th (.70"). The monthly rainfall total of 2.48" was 2.57"
below normal and brings the total yearly rainfall total to 16.24" which is a quarter of an inch below normal. This lack
of rainfall in April and May has offset the surplus of over 4" during the first three months of the year. Even with the
three days of record highs the average temperature was 0.4° below normal at 74.9°F.
