| Monthly Review | ||||||||||||||
| The month of May was warm and wet for the Brazos Valley. The month began with some showers and cold | ||||||||||||||
| temperatures due to a cold front moving out of the area. On the 2nd, the 37 year old record for lowest minimum | ||||||||||||||
| temperature was tied at 48°F. A high pressure system moved across the state warming up the area. Beginning | ||||||||||||||
| on the 8th, College Station had seven consecutive days with measurable precipitation, and ten days with at least a | ||||||||||||||
| trace of rainfall. The heaviest rain fell on the 13th due to a slow-moving cold frontal boundary with 5.04" recorded | ||||||||||||||
| at Easterwood Field. In the nearby city of Hearne in Robertson County, 17.5" fell in 9 hours and two dams broke, | ||||||||||||||
| flooding large parts of Robertson and Brazon Counties. After the passage of the cold front, temperatures warmed | ||||||||||||||
| up with highs above 86 for the entire second half of the month. Only a trace of rain was recorded after the 17th, | ||||||||||||||
| and the area hit 90 for the first time on the 24th. The minimum temperatures were also very high with records tied | ||||||||||||||
| on the 18th, 29th, and 30th. The month finished by reaching its highest temperature at 96°F. The average | ||||||||||||||
| temperature was only 1° above normal, but 7.83" of rain were recorded which is about 3" above normal. This | ||||||||||||||
| added to the already-high precipitation for 2004, which is nearly 8.5" above normal at 25.28". | ||||||||||||||
