*NOTE: All records are based on observations taken at Easterwood Field (1952-present)
Compared to numerous records and near records for February, March was
a fairly calm month with only 2 near records and one tied record. The near records
resulted from an early springtime cold front that trekked across Texas on the 28th of
March. The month of March brought cooler than normal temperatures to College Station
with an average monthly departure from normal of -2.3 degrees Fahrenheit. Rainfall was
quite scarce this month as only 1.72 inches of rain fell, a 1.12 inch deficit for the month.
Severe weather occurred on the evening of the 25th when a squall line moved across the area.
Wind reports at Texas A&M by a spotter were rated at 65 miles per hour, and caused some
damage to the retainment wall around the Eller O&M building. Hail up to 1.5 inches was
also reported in Bryan by a spotter.  The end of the month ended on a calm note with
temperatures in the lower 70's.
