Monthly Review
The Brazos Valley saw heavy rains and below normal temperatures during the month of June.  Beginning on the
first week, the tail end of a stationary front caused scattered showers to drop almost two inches on College Station.
An upper level disturbance during the second week of June caused heavy rainfall in the Brazos Valley and most of
southeast Texas.  On the 8th, College Station received 2.41", and the rain helped cool temperatures down.  A low
pressure system settled over Louisiana just before the 15th, and a daily record was set on the 15th with 2.93" of
precipitation.  Things became relatively normal for the third week of June before the subtropical jet settled over the
state for the final week of the month.  A stationary front in the northern part of the state combined with the moist
air from the jet to cause copious amounts of rainfall throughout the Brazos Valley and the state.  June ended with
2.86" over seven consecutive days of rain.  11.75" of rain fell during June, the second wettest June since 1910.
For the year, 37.04" have fallen - 93% of the normal annual rainfall for the city (39.67").  The 18 days with
measurable precipitation is 11 over the normal for June.  The rain cooled temperatures down quite a bit, as well.
The highest temperature of the month was 96° on the 1st, and two records were new set for lowest maximum
temperature.  Nine of the 14 near records during the month were also for lowest maximum temperature.  The
average daily temperature was 1.4° below normal.  With half of 2004 finished, the area has yet to reach 100°F.
