Monthly Review
July 2006 started off much cooler and wetter than normal.  The average departure from the normal mean temperature
for the first nine days was -3°F, and precipitation during that period totaled 3.85", over twice the normal monthly
total of 1.92".  While most of the nation was suffering from an extreme heat way, the Brazos Valley was right around
normal, with the highest departure from the normal mean temperature at +4°F on the 18th.  Overall, the mean
temperature for the month was 0.9°F below normal at 83.7°F.  The mean maximum temperature was 92.7°F, 2.9°F
below normal while the mean minimum temperature was 1.2°F above average at 74.8°F.  When speaking of
temperature the month of July 2006 was fairly average.  However,  precipitation in the area was not.  The monthly
total of 5.86" is the highest monthly total this year, during a month that normally yields the lowest yearly total.  Yearly
precipitation totals were below average until this month, which brought the yearly total to 25.45", 2.95" above normal.
The total precipitation for this month was 5.86", over three times the normal total.  Thanks to some tropical systems
this July proved to be a wet month, giving the area some much needed drought relief.
