|
| Positive anomalies
of temperature in the Brazos Valley greeted the new year. With a mean |
| monthly temperature of 54.6°F,
January was 6.1°F above normal. The mean daily temperature |
| rose above its daily normal temperature
on 22 days throughout the month. The daily positive |
| departures ranged from 1°F
to 24°F. The 17th and 21st of January saw new high temperature |
| records set with temperature readings
climbing to 79°F and 80°F respectively. Precipitation on |
| the other hand was 1.70 inches
below normal for the month of January. This was the first month |
| since last July to experience
less precipitation than what is normally expected. |
| Around three-quarters of the total
precipitation that fell at Easterwood Field during January 1999 |
| was actually observed from the
28th to the 30th. During this time a low pressure system in South |
| Texas tracked eastward across
the state. The system triggered severe storms across the area while |
| also bringing heavy rain to some
locations in Brazos County. |
