Monthly Review
2006 got off to a warm start as the average departure from normal for the first five day of the month was 13.2°, and
the mean temperature on the 1st over 21° above average.  Also, record highs of 81 on the 1st and 3rd were
reported.  The monthly mean was 57.3° which is 7.1° above normal, which continues the trend of this winter being
very warm.  As for precipitation, the Brazos Valley finally got some much needed rainfall.  While it wasn't much,
2.63" for the month, which is 0.69" below normal, any kind of precipitation is welcome.  The 16th reported the area's
first measurable rainfall since the 17th of December and the 1.66" that fell on the 22nd was the first rainfall total over
1.00" since March 18, 2005 when 1.61" fell at Easterwood Field.  Another front moved through on the 28th bringing
the region more precipitation with 0.69" falling at Easterwood Field.  The end of the month was slightly cooler than
the beginning with the first ten days having an average daily temperature of 60° compared to 55° for the last ten days
of the month.  Hopefully, February will bring cooler temperature and more precipitation to ease the drought
that has been affecting the entire region.
