Monthly Review
The beginning of 2005 was a roller coaster for the Brazos Valley.  The month began with extremely warm
temperatures for this time of the year.  The average temperature was about 22° above normal, and new records
were set on the 3rd and 4th for highest minimum and maximum temperatures.  A cold front began to pass through
on the night of the 5th, and temperatures plummeted.  The high on the 6th was only 39°, a 32° drop from the
previous day.  A high pressure system moved over the state, and temperatures warmed back up to the 70s.  On the
11th, a cold front associated with a low pressure system moved across Texas, and a line of severe storms popped
up ahead of the front.  College Station received 1.27" of rain on the 12th, a 24-hour maximum for January.
Temperatures remained consistenly cool until a high pressure system moved in warming things up.  Temperatures
cooled down with another front on the 22nd, and the minimum extreme for the month was reached on the 23rd.
Temperatures rose again, and even reached 80° at Easterwood Field on the 26th tying an old record.  The month
ended with another cold front which brought temperatures down just below normal as well as some heavy rain.
Over the last five days of January, College Station received 1.41" of rain for a monthly total of 3.92" - 0.60" above
normal.  The average daily temperature of 54.6° was 4.4° above normal, but not near any records.
