Monthly Review
The month of January in the Brazos Valley was one of temperature extremes. A high temperature of 77
degrees was reported on the 3rd, and a low temperature of 28 degrees on the 6th, and 27th.  This roller coaster of
temperatures was contributed to numerous cold front systems sweeping through the state. On the 4th, an arctic
cold front passed through the Brazos Valley dropping temperatures more than twenty degrees from the previous day.
A moderating trend continued through mid month until a second cold front moved through on the 17th.
This system produced rainfall in the area for 3 consecutive days.  Numerous low pressure disturbances moved
across the state, especially on the 24th.  In College Station at Easterwood Airport, a total of 2.29 inches of rain fell
on the 24th.  Other areas in Texas also received copious amounts of rainfall.   The month of January
ended with a precipitation total of 4.53 inches, which was 1.21 inches above normal, and on a cooler note.
