Monthly Review
This February saw the return of winter and precipitation to the Bryan/College Station area.  The month started off
with record setting rainfall.  The rainfall total of 2.11" on the 1st was a daily record for total rainfall and represented
88% of the normal rainfall total for the month (2.39").  More rainfall and colder temperatures reached the Brazos
Valley on the 9th and10th.  Avergage temperatures were 13.5° below normal on the 11th and the lowest temperature
of the month was set on the morning of the 12th at 26°.  In the three day period after the cold front, the 11th, 12th,
and 13th, the average departure from normal was -10.5°. Temperatures increased on the 15th and 16th
as an approaching front triggered warm south winds.  The cold front brought very cold temperatures and winter
precipitation along with it.  Light snow was reported in College Station on the 18th.  Temperatures during the 3 days
after the front moved through were, on average, 18.7° below normal.  The 19th reported a high temperature of 36°
which was a record low maximum for the day.  The highest temperature of the month was recorded on the 16th at
79°.  Precipitation for the month was 1.32" above average, the first above average rainfall total average since August
2005, which was 0.63" above average.  The rainfall was concentrated on three days, the1st, 10th, and 25th. Those
three days accounted for 96% of the month's total rainfall.  Hopefully, the trend of cooler temperature and more
precipitation will continue into Spring.
