Monthly Review
This December proved to have little relief of the dry conditions that continue to plaque the Brazos Valley and the
entire state.  The offical monthly total of 1.00" made this December the 10th driest December in history ( the driest
was 0.10" in 1950).  The yearly total was 28.98" which is 10.69" below normal.  In total for the year there were five
months in which the precipitation was above average ( Jan, Feb, Mar, July, Aug).  Beginning on September 1,
a total of only 4.1" of precipitation has fallen in College Station compared to a normal of 14.54".  This December was
slightly cooler than normal with a monthly mean temperature of 51.1°, which is 1.1° below normal. The month started
out very warm with the mean temperature on the 3rd 20.5° above normal, but a strong cold front brought much
colder temperature with the mean temperature on the 8th 26° below normal.  The precipitation that fell on the 7th
became freezing rain and covered much of the Brazos Valley in a thin coat of ice, but as the month progressed it
became much warmer. Highs of 78 and 77 were experienced on the 26th and 27th, respectively.
