Monthly Review

The month of August turned out to be even drier than July as the Brazos Valley received less than an inch of rain for the second straight month. All of the measurable precipitation fell during a 24-hour period on the 7th and 8th as a stationary front sat over East Texas. Combined with moisture from the Gulf of Mexico, this event produced steady rainfall starting in the evening of the 7th which continued through the next morning. The cool temperatures accompanying the rain brought relief to the residents of Bryan/College Station, and set a new record for the lowest maximum temperature ever observed on the 8th of August -- one of many records which were broken or threatened during the month.

Despite the dry summer conditions that we have experienced, our annual precipitation total is still over two inches above normal.
