Monthly Review
This August proved to be just about average.  The average monthly temperature was slightly warmer than normal
with an average monthly temperature of 86.0°F, 1.3°F above average.  The monthly precipitation was 2.47", 0.16"
below normal.  The bulk of the precipitation came on the 6th and 7th when the area received 1.88".  A strong area
of high pressure kept us hot and dry for the next 10 days. The average high for the 8th-18th was 97°F.  As this high
began to weaken, the chance for afternoon showers again increased.  A storm moved through the area on the 22nd
and produced 0.59" of rainfall.   Temperature remained warm throughout the month with an average high temperature
of 96.6°F, 0.4°F above normal, and only one day of the month reported a high temperature below 90°F.  High
humidity levels kept the temperatures warmer at night than normal.  The monthly mean minimum temperature for the
month was 75.5°F, 2.3°F above normal and almost all of the records and near records for the month were related
to the minimum temperature.  Overall, August 2006 was an average monthly.  Precipitation was slightly below average
and temperatures were slightly above average, but neither precipitation nor temperature proved to be very far off of
the average values.  The yearly precipitation total is now at 27.92", 2.79" above normal.
