Monthly Review
July 2007 continued the trend of below average temperatures and above average precipitation for the Brazos
Valley this summer. In fact, College Station recorded the 10th coolest July on record. The average high temperature
of 89.1° F was nearly 7 degrees below average for the month. Several days saw records for lowest maximum
temperature either tied or broken. The month got off to a wet start as deep tropical moisture moved off the Gulf
of Mexico and into southeast Texas. 1.67" of rain fell from the 1st through the 6th, nearly equaling the average
total for the entire month. The middle of the month saw drier conditions and warmer temperatures, but daily
high temperatures were still several degrees below normal. The last two weeks of the month were characterized
by more rain and well below average temperatures as an upper level trough and more tropical moisture affected
the region. High pressure finally built in over Texas during the last few days of the month bringing closer to normal
temperatures and drier weather. For the month, 4.58" of rain was reported, which is 2.66" above average.
The average high temperature for the month was 81.8° F, which is nearly 3° F below normal.
