4) Know why the temperature near the surface rises and cools during the diurnal cycle. What absorbs the incoming radiation?

5) Know the difference between solar and infrared radiation, the major source for each type of radiation, and how the atmosphere reacts to each type of radiation.

6) Be able to apply the information above to give a simple description of the greenhouse effect. Know the two most prevalent greenhouse gases.
