Soundings, Clouds, and Convection

Review Question

The review questions are provided as an aid in studying. They are similar to the questions that will appear on quizzes during the semester.

How are layers of clouds identified on a sounding diagram?

Answer

On a sounding diagram, clouds are layers in the atmosphere in which the temperature and dew point are nearly equal. Thus, the two plotted lines, of temperature and dew point, will be very close to each other.
