Welcome back! Now, to become a fully competent user of the MOTL computers, all you need to do is demonstrate the ability to turn on and off the computers. Please demonstrate proper computer etiquette: shut off the computer if it will no longer be needed. Note: this applies only to the MOTL computers, do not shut off any of the computers in 1201.

When you arrive at a fresh Power Macintosh, the screen will be blank. Hit the key with a large left facing triangle on it. It is the key in the upper right of the keyboard that is all by itself. You will need to hold the key down for about a second or until the computer starts its starup jingle, then release the key and wait for the startup processes to finish.

{When you arrive at a fresh iMac, you will want to press the switch on the lower right of the monitor (that has the zero with a one sticking out of it). Hold the switch down for about a second.}

To turn off the Power Macintosh, hit the same triangle key and wait for a menu to pop up. Click on the "Shut Down" option and your done.

{To turn off the iMac, you could press the same switch on the monitor to turn it off, but doing so doesn't give you any other options (such as restarting the computer). If you use the identical looking switch on the keyboard, the other shutdown options are given to you prior to shutdown.}

Go ahead and try that now. Turn off the computer, and turn it back on. Once you've done that, bring Netscape Navigator back up and proceed to the next page.
